Why make time for it

The protected Monterey-area window is exactly 360 minutes: arrive by 10:00 and leave at 16:00. Keep that six-hour boundary intact. If either live drive stops working, do not recover time by cutting safety, daylight, or the return decision.

Point Lobos is the core. It publishes 08:00–19:00 day use, last entry at 18:30, and a $10 vehicle day-use line. Headlands, coves, and lawful exterior observation make the route; no particular trail, wildlife sighting, view, parking space, or accessibility level is promised. The Information Station and Whalers Cabin Museum are optional because each operates as staffing permits.

The known core self-drive subtotal for two is $70–$150: $10 vehicle day use plus a self-selected $60–$140 food-and-drink allowance. Fuel, tolls, vehicle costs, transit, special rates, alcohol, tax, gratuity, rentals, insurance, citations, and purchases are excluded. A separately selected Monterey city parking line of $8–$14 is not Point Lobos parking and is outside the core subtotal.

The reserve is strict day use: exit by closing. Dogs, alcohol, drones, fires, collecting, and bicycles on trails are prohibited, as are vehicles over 21 feet. MST is only a local real-time comparison after independently reaching the area, not a replacement route.

Last mile

The entrance and coastal exterior areas are on-site decision points. This guide does not promise an accessible route, staffed information stop, museum opening, wildlife, view, or fixed walking distance.

Parking

Confirm legal Point Lobos parking before entering. The published vehicle day-use line is $10, but special rates may apply and prices can change. Monterey downtown/waterfront parking is a separate alternative, not reserve parking.
